Real Madrid – Juventus
Football: UEFA Champions League
Santiago Bernabeu – Madrid
Wednesday, 23rd October – Kickoff 20:45 CET
Real Madrid have sent a strong message to the teams in Europe, with their opening two wins in the UEFA Champions League this season. In the first round they thrashed Galatasaray in Istanbul with 6-1 and in the second round they nailed Kobenhavn with 4-0 at home.
Real Madrid have scored at least two goals in six of their last seven matches in the UEFA Champions League, and their form is on the rise again. Since their 0-1 home loss against Atletico Madrid almost a month ago, Real Madrid improved their domestic form and won their last two matches. Last weekend they had no trouble beating Malaga 2-0 at home.
Cristiano Ronaldo is currently the top scorer in the UEFA Champions League, scoring three goals in the first match against Galatasaray and two goals against the Danish champions Kobenhavn in the last round. Cristiano Ronaldo has a fantastic goal-scoring record in the UEFA Champions League over the past several seasons, having scored 24 goals in his last 20 matches played in this competition.
Iker Casillas is expected to replace Diego Lopez at the goalkeeping position, while midfielder Xabi Alonso remains absent. Record summer signing Gareth Bale played a few minutes in the last match against Malaga, but he is still struggling with an injury and remains doubtful for selection.
Probable Real Madrid line-up (4-2-3-1):
Arbeloa, Varane, Ramos, Marcelo,
Di Maria, Isco, Ronaldo,
Juventus drew their first two games in the UEFA Champions League this season, 1-1 against Kobenhavn and 2-2 against Galatasaray, so now their situation in this group is extremely complicated.
Their confidence took another blow this last weekend, when they got heavily beaten 4-2 against Fiorentina in the Italian Seria A, although they were leading 2-0 in that match. Juventus must get something out of this match, but another draw will not be good enough in their pursuit of progression of this group.
Juventus coach Antonio Conte has problems with a few injured players in front of this match, as the defender Stephan Lichtsteiner and strikers Mirko Vucinic and Fabio Quagliarella are all out with thigh injuries.
Probable Juventus line-up (3-5-2):
Chiellini, Barzagli, Bonucci,
Marchisio, Pogba, Pirlo, Vidal, Asamoah,
The Betting Verdict
These two teams have met 14 times in the UEFA Champions League, with Real Madrid winning five times and losing twice at their home ground in Madrid. Last time Real Madrid played against Juventus was back in the season 2008/09, when Juventus managed an impressive 2-0 win at the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid, and a 2-1 home win in Torino.
However, Real Madrid are currently in top form, winning and scoring lots of goals at all fronts. Juventus will most likely play their usual game, denying Real Madrid at the middle of the pitch, but Real Madrid will certainly seek another victory that will seal the first place in this group.
Real Madrid will play against their biggest rivals Barcelona this upcoming weekend in the Spanish La Liga, so a victory against Juventus will lift their confidence to the maximum.
We believe that betting on Real Madrid to win this match is well worth a punt, having in mind the current power of both teams. Also another valuable bet is to take Cristiano Ronaldo as anytime goalscorer, having in mind his fantastic goal scoring record in the UEFA Champions League.
